Narmeen El-Horr received her MA in Arabic Language and Literature from the American University of Beirut (AUB), completing a thesis on trauma in modern autobiography. Prior to joining the University of Notre Dame as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Arabic, she has taught Arabic language and literature at the Department of Arabic and Near Eastern Languages in AUB, in addition to the CAMES intensive summer Arabic program since 2012 (AUB). She has also worked at the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (AUB) as Communication Coordinator. Her main areas of interest include Arab modernism, Arabic Novel, Arabic autobiography, and trauma and literature. Her forthcoming article in Al-Abhath discusses the role of modern Arabic autobiographies in exploring and overcoming physical and psychological captivity.
