Michael Cook teaches and researches various aspects of Islamic history, and is currently writing a book about the history of the Islamic world to about  1800. He entered the field as an undergraduate at Cambridge; this led to a position at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London, and then to his current position at Princeton University.
