A "Miserable Wreck"
Jack Tannous will deliver a lecture entitled “On Samuel of Edessa, Mattai of Aleppo, and Wapha, the Aramean Philosopher, or, Syriac Literature as a ‘Miserable Wreck.’” The lecture will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at 5:00 pm in the Medieval Institute Reading Room (715 Hesburgh Library), with a reception to follow.
Tannous is Assistant Professor of History at Princeton University, where he teaches late antiquity. His research focuses on the social, cultural, and intellectual history of the Middle East, particularly its Syriac- and Arabic-speaking Christian communities, in the second half of the first millennium. He lives in Princeton, New Jersey with his wife and two children.
