The Department of Arabic Studies welcomes Ahmad Al-Jallad, Sofia Chair in Arabic Studies ub the Department of Near Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures at Ohio State University. This talk will examine the emergence of two pre-Islamic Arabian theonyms, Allāh and Allāt, tracking their development across the epigraphic record spanning more than a millennium before the rise of Islam and across the Peninsula.
